Casualties Following Armed Attack on Police Station in Iran
SadaNews - The Tasnim news agency reported today, Sunday, that an armed attack targeted a police station in the southeastern region of the country, in Sistan-Baluchestan province, resulting in the death of a security personnel and three of the attackers.
The agency clarified that the attack was carried out by elements of what is called "Army of Oppression," which is "the name used by Iranian authorities to refer to the ‘Army of Justice,’ a group that carries out attacks against police stations and the Revolutionary Guards in defense of the rights of the Sunni Baluchi people."
During the clashes, security forces managed to repel the attempted invasion, resulting in the death of three attackers and the arrest of two others, while a security personnel was killed during the incident.
The ‘Army of Justice’ relies on light weapons and explosive belts in its operations, targeting military gatherings, police stations, and border guards. It is also known for smuggling weapons from Pakistan and Afghanistan into Iran.
While there are no official statistics on the number of its elements, some media sources indicate that its forces range between one thousand and two thousand armed members, making it an ongoing threat to security in the region.
