Death of 49 Children by Drowning in the Occupied Territories Over the Last 10 Years
SadaNews - 49 children have lost their lives by drowning in swimming pools in the occupied Palestinian territories over the last ten years, according to data from the Israeli organization "Bat Yam". It reported that drowning is one of the main direct causes of death among children, being the second leading cause of fatalities after road accidents.
"Bat Yam" warned of the continuation of the severe heat alongside the peak of the summer vacation.
It noted that "drowning cases naturally increase with the arrival of summer and during the school vacation, as many children and families spend several days during the break at the beaches to enjoy the sea waters in the face of extreme heat, as well as enjoying the waters of swimming pools and other water sources".
According to its data, in the last five years from 2020 to 2024, 79 children have died due to drowning incidents, including 22 Arab children, with drowning incidents occurring either in sea waters or public swimming pools, home pools, hotel pools, recreation houses, rivers, water complexes, and other household water basins, and so on.
Regarding the drowning data witnessed in home pools and hospitality and recreation houses over the last ten years from 2015 to 2024, there have been 49 drowning cases resulting in death.
