
Fidan: Negotiations Between Russia and Ukraine are Moving Towards a More Constructive Direction
SadaNews - TRT Haber television reported the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan saying that his country believes that direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are headed in a more positive direction aimed at achieving results.
The Turkish minister commented on the results of the third round of direct negotiations regarding Ukraine that took place in Istanbul on July 23: "Overall, we are pleased to observe that the negotiations are heading towards a more constructive direction and aim to achieve results."
Fidan added: "In the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations organized by Turkey in Istanbul, another brick has been added to the structure of the shared will of the parties on the path to a solution. Turkey, which has been striving for a settlement since the first day of the war, will continue its efforts to establish lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine."
It is noted that Istanbul, Turkey, witnessed yesterday, Wednesday, the third round of direct negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.
The Russian delegation was headed by Vladimir Medinsky, and also included Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia Igor Kostyukov, and Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin.
The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. The two sides agreed to exchange new prisoners of war and to continue working on humanitarian issues, including within working groups.
According to available information, the negotiation session involving both delegations lasted about 40 minutes, and the talks were conducted in Russian.
It is worth mentioning that Russia and Ukraine held two previous rounds of direct negotiations in May and June in Istanbul, which resulted in the exchange of prisoners, as well as Moscow handing over the bodies of dead Ukrainian soldiers to Kyiv, in addition to both sides exchanging draft memoranda for resolving the conflict.
