Casualties in Russian Bombing on Ukraine

SadaNews - Two people were killed and more than 20 others were injured on Wednesday in a Russian airstrike that targeted a crowded square in the town of Dobropillya, located 20 kilometers from the front lines in eastern Ukraine, while rescue teams continue to search for survivors believed to still be under the rubble.

According to regional authorities in Donetsk, Russia dropped a 500-kilogram bomb on the town, causing significant damage to infrastructure, with 54 shops and 13 buildings in the area around the targeted square affected during peak hours.

Vadim Filashkin, a local official in Donetsk, stated in a social media post: "Two people were killed, and 22 others were injured in the bombing, and there may be more casualties under the rubble."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strike as a "horrific attack," affirming that "these strikes have no military target; they aim only to inflict the maximum number of civilian casualties," he said.

The attack came amid a broad escalation wave that included hundreds of Russian drone strikes, along with shelling and missile attacks, between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, targeting several areas in Ukraine, notably a ballistic missile launch from the Crimean Peninsula, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Air Force.

These developments come amid a call from U.S. President Donald Trump, who is pushing for a peace agreement within 50 days, threatening to impose severe sanctions on Moscow if it refuses, following his announcement of a deal with NATO to provide Ukraine with air defense systems and American weapons.

Although the Kremlin has stated its readiness to communicate, direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have been stalled for more than a month, with no date set for their resumption.

Russia continues to target Ukrainian cities with near-daily strikes since the start of its invasion in February 2022, while its forces still occupy about 20% of Ukrainian territory and continue to advance on fronts against a Ukrainian army facing challenges in numbers and equipment.
