"Women’s Affairs" condemns the murder of a woman in Yatta and warns of the dire consequences of violence against women
SadaNews - The Ministry of Women’s Affairs condemned the heinous crime that claimed the life of a 30-year-old young woman in the town of Yatta in Hebron Governorate.
The ministry indicated in a statement issued today, Monday, that this crime and other acts of violence directed against women and girls warn of dire consequences for the Palestinian family and society as a whole. It recognizes the serious reality that coincides with the compounded challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation forces and the ongoing crimes of aggression against our people, along with the multidimensional violence faced by women and girls.
The ministry called on investigative authorities and law enforcement agencies to provide justice for the victim of this crime and other victims, to achieve specific and general deterrence, and to prevent the perpetrators of these crimes from escaping punishment. It emphasized that addressing these recurring crimes in our Palestinian society in such a shocking manner is an urgent matter that requires joint efforts and dealing with the realities of the killing of women and girls with a spirit of national, legal, humanitarian, and moral responsibility.
It also expressed its clear and explicit commitment to Palestinian women and girls, continuing to stand by them in confronting these serious criminal incidents that threaten the social cohesion of the entire community. It prioritizes taking effective preventive measures and providing a protective, supportive, empowering, and deterrent legislative environment that fortifies the Palestinian family and achieves protection and social and legal justice for them.
The ministry urged women and girls who are victims and survivors of gender-based violence and discrimination to disclose these incidents and communicate with service providers in key sectors, and not to hesitate in seeking assistance and protection, as the security of women and girls and their physical, psychological, and sexual safety is a commitment that the ministry works with partners in both the public and civil sectors to strengthen and ensure.
