From Italy to Palestine: A Quality Academic Agreement Opens the CIMEA Gateway to the Middle East through Palestine

SadaNews - In an important and qualitative academic step that enhances Palestine's presence in the international higher education space, a cooperation agreement was signed between An-Najah National University and the CIMEA Center for Information on Academic Mobility and Equivalence in Italy to establish the CIMEA regional office in the Middle East, serving as a regional platform for academic collaboration, recognition of qualifications, digital innovation, and support for higher education institutions in Palestine and the region.

This agreement comes within the framework of broad institutional cooperation aimed at developing qualitative partnerships in advanced training, academic internationalization, exchange of experiences, combating academic fraud, and enhancing tools for recognizing certificates and qualifications according to the best international practices.

Among the first initiatives stemming from this cooperation is the launch of a Micro-credentials system for Palestinian students, which will allow for the documentation of specialized skills through short and flexible programs linked to the needs of the labor market, development, and reconstruction.

Dr. Khairia Rassas, Vice President for Partnerships and Global Initiatives at An-Najah University, and President of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), confirmed that this agreement represents an important milestone in the path of Palestinian academic internationalization. She emphasized: "The agreement to establish the CIMEA regional office in Palestine reflects growing international confidence in Palestinian higher education institutions and affirms Palestine's ability to be an active and influential partner in building a more open and innovative Euro-Mediterranean academic space." She noted that this cooperation opens new horizons for students, researchers, and institutions, and enhances recognition mechanisms for qualifications and capacity building in Palestine and the region.

The signing of this agreement represents an international message of confidence in the role of An-Najah National University, not only as a leading academic institution but also as a regional platform capable of leading cross-border initiatives, linking Palestine to Italy, Europe, and the Middle East through effective pathways for sustainable scientific and professional cooperation.
