Mekani Incubator, in partnership with the National Bank, launches the 'Green City Challenge' program
SadaNews Economy - The Mekani Incubator, affiliated with the Ramallah municipality, and the National Bank launched the first sessions of the 'Green City Challenge' program, aimed at enhancing the role of Palestinian youth in innovating practical and sustainable solutions to the environmental challenges facing the city, particularly in the areas of energy, water, waste management, and environmental sustainability, contributing to making Ramallah a green and environmentally friendly city.
The event witnessed the launching of a training camp (Bootcamp) in cooperation with the country of Palestine for three days, with the participation of Palestinian youth with entrepreneurial ideas that have a sustainable dimension. The program includes providing intensive mentorship for the participants to develop their initial ideas within a supportive environment that helps them transform these ideas into scalable and implementable models, which will later be presented to a specialized committee that will evaluate and select the applicable ideas and support them to turn into practical solutions that enhance the city’s smart and sustainable environmental infrastructure.
In this context, Irene Saadeh, Director of the Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department at the Ramallah Municipality, confirmed that the program constitutes an important platform for empowering youth to lead environmental innovation in the city, noting that the Ramallah Municipality is working to promote a culture of green entrepreneurship and support initiatives that contribute to improving resource efficiency and enhancing sustainability practices. She added that the 'Green City Challenge' reflects the municipality's commitment to developing innovative solutions that stem from the community and respond to the actual environmental needs of the city.
Also, Rime Anani, Director of Public Relations at the National Bank, indicated that the bank's sponsorship of the program comes in line with its orientations to support innovation, youth entrepreneurship, and enhance green transformation initiatives, pointing out that the bank continues its commitment to adopting sustainability principles in all its operations and enhancing its partnerships with local and international institutions to contribute to building a sustainable national economy.
