Ministry of Economy Warns of the Consequences of the Occupation's Continued Closure of the Karama Crossing for Goods
SadaNews Economy - The Ministry of National Economy warned of the serious repercussions of the continued closure of the Israeli occupation government of the Karama crossing since September 18, which has led to a near-complete halt in Palestinian commercial movement, after the crossing used to see more than 550 trucks passing daily before October 7, 2023.
The ministry confirmed in a statement today, Thursday, that this closure has disrupted the exports of dates, vegetables, and fruits at the peak of the season, causing significant losses for Palestinian farmers and factories, and obstructed the flow of basic goods and raw materials into the local market, exacerbating the losses of our national economy which is witnessing a contraction of 29%.
It emphasized that the Palestinian government, including the Ministry of Economy, is intensively following up on this file and is continuing its communications with Arab brothers and friendly nations to rally international support and pressure Israel to urgently open the crossing and ensure the flow of goods and trade, and to prevent the policy of closure.
The ministry called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities, and to take effective steps to stop the arbitrary Israeli measures, ensuring freedom of commercial movement and protecting the Palestinian economy from collapse.
