Jordan Condemns the Israeli Occupation's Approval of 2126 New Settlement Units in the West Bank
SadaNews - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the Israeli authorities' approval of the construction of 2,126 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank; a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian law, undermining the efforts for a two-state solution, and a clear violation of the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination and to end the occupation and establish their independent sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with its capital in occupied Jerusalem.
The official spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's condemnation and absolute rejection of the continued projects and settlement plans by the extreme Israeli government in the occupied West Bank, which represent a consolidation of the occupation and settlement expansion, a clear undermining of the international will for a two-state solution, and a violation of international law and international legitimacy, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli actions aimed at changing the demographic composition and character of the Palestinian land occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, in addition to the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice which confirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and the nullity of settlements and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.
Majali called on the international community to bear its legal and moral responsibilities, and to compel Israel to stop its dangerous escalation and illegal unilateral actions in the occupied West Bank, and the necessity of meeting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is establishing their independent state on their national soil; the only path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
