Trump ... From Failure to Manipulation in the Region
The request made by the US President during the group call with leaders of Arab and Islamic countries to engage in the Abraham Accords has elicited clear responses from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, rejecting any connection of such agreements with the Iranian-Israeli war; instead, the possible linkage should be to end the Israeli occupation of the territories occupied in 1967 or to establish a reliable path for the establishment of a Palestinian state, focusing on the core of the conflict in the region, which is fundamentally related to the Israeli occupation. This request also indicates that Trump is still keen on achieving a political victory for Netanyahu in order to accept the new equation being drawn by the US for its interests in the region, potentially to restore relations with Iran.
It seems that the misreading by the American administration, which started a war without considering the interests of the Arab states in the Gulf, which were seeking to strengthen their military capabilities within a strategic alliance with the United States, and empowering them with advanced weapons, especially in the field of air power as one of the tools of their deterrence strategy. Conversely, the entire Gulf region has suffered security-wise due to Iran targeting its lands and economic establishments, especially oil facilities, and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which significantly impacted the economic interests of these countries by preventing the free flow of trade, including the export of Gulf oil to countries around the world.
This request is linked to two issues: first, leveraging this war to claim that peace has been achieved in the Middle East as an accomplishment for President Trump on the path to expanding the Abraham Accords by deploying American military force to subdue the region, which is one of his political slogans. The second is an attempt to gain support from the Zionist lobby in the American states for Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm Congressional elections in November, due to his failure to completely subdue Iran through war or armed force.
In my opinion, I believe that the pillars of the American administration are fully aware that making a change in the Middle East requires a repositioning of regional powers' interests, especially regarding Israel's ambitions in the region and stopping its aggression against the nations and peoples of the area towards achieving comprehensive peace based on rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people, to enhance stability, security, and prosperity in the region. However, so far, the American president Donald Trump has not grasped the essence of the intertwined and interwoven relationships in the Middle East, founded on history, identity, rights, geography, religion, and economics; for coexistence is not merely linked to economics and prosperity but to recognizing status without undermining any of the underlying interrelated factors in the region and the considerations of each party involved.
