The Ball is in the Palestinian Court Too
What is happening at the global level, both publicly and politically, within international organizations regarding the triumph of the just Palestinian cause and the Palestinian narrative, despite all the confusion surrounding the recognition of statehood, is significant as it puts for the first time the state of the Zionist entity, its narrative, and Washington in a real predicament. What is crucial in this context is the affirmation of the bond between the Palestinian people, the land of Palestine, and the Palestinian state. Even though transitioning from the phase of recognition of a non-member Palestinian state to a fully-fledged member state under occupation, followed by the phase of achieving independence, the withdrawal of Israel from the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, leading to the establishment of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, requires significant time and effort—not only on the part of the countries of the world and the international community but primarily from the Palestinians themselves to continue and enhance this international momentum.
I believe there are two urgent and necessary steps that the Palestinians must take:
The first is from Hamas; during the New York conference for a two-state solution, it should declare at the highest political level that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the legitimate and sole representative of all Palestinian people and empower the organization, in cooperation with Egypt and other Arab and international parties, in all matters related to the Gaza Strip, including civil and military affairs, weapons, and the issue of Israeli hostages. Notably, Britain and France are linking the opening of an embassy for Palestine to the release of hostages, despite the fact that neither the State of Palestine, nor the PLO, nor the Authority had any relation to the war that took place in the Gaza Strip!
The second step from the leadership of the PLO is to announce an urgent call for a meeting outside the occupied territories, which could take place at the Arab League headquarters, for all factions, active civil society institutions, and national and moral figures to agree on a roadmap of what can be done following the conclusion of the two-state solution conference and the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.
