After the escalation.. Mojtaba Khamenei attacks Washington and calls for the unity of Iranians

SadaNews - Following the escalation between the United States and Iran, Iranian leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated that the violation of the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington has proven the "lack of value and credibility of the U.S. president's signature," as he put it.

Khamenei added, in a written message posted on his account on the "X" platform and reported by Iranian media on Saturday, that what he described as the "repeated disruption" by the U.S. of its commitments under the memorandum reflects that "domination, hegemony, and brutality" are part of the American approach. He also accused the U.S. of "breaking promises" and being "unreliable," asserting that recent developments have revealed its "true face," according to his words.

Additionally, Mojtaba, who has not appeared publicly since his appointment in March, directed a message to the Iranian interior, stating that "maintaining unity, avoiding division and conflict, steering clear of political disputes, and highlighting social differences is a collective responsibility," considering that the responsibility of Iranian officials in "preserving the cohesion and unity of the country is more critical and sensitive."

The Iranian leader mentioned that "care should be taken when criticizing officials," adding: "Some individuals, driven by sincerity and good intentions, may have criticisms of the performance of some officials, and I see that this care and concern for the system represents, just like those who have these criticisms themselves, a valuable asset and is commendable in itself."

Moreover, Mojtaba Khamenei was absent from his father's funeral at the beginning of this month, which kept speculation about his status ongoing, amid rumors that he had been injured in the U.S.-Israeli strikes that resulted in his father's death at the onset of the war, especially since he has not appeared publicly since his appointment in early March.

This came at a time when an Iranian official stated that Mojtaba Khamenei would not appear publicly until the war with the U.S. and Israel concludes.

Suspension of the "Islamabad" memorandum

Today, Saturday, Iran announced the suspension of all its commitments contained in the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States, accusing Washington of violating its commitments and resorting to what it described as "aggressive actions," in a move that reflects the collapse of the de-escalation process between the two countries under the weight of military escalation.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that his country was engaged in negotiations with the American side when Washington carried out military actions, which he described as a direct violation of the commitments stipulated in the memorandum of understanding.

The announcement of the suspension of commitments followed an expansion of American strikes within Iran and Tehran's response with missile and drone attacks targeting sites in Gulf countries, leading to a rapid decline in the chances of resuming political communications between the two sides.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, condemned in the strongest terms the Iranian attacks that targeted Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, as well as the infrastructure and civilian facilities, resulting in injuries to several civilians in Kuwait.

Al-Budaiwi considered what Tehran did to be a highly dangerous escalation and a serious violation of international law and the UN Charter that amounts to war crimes warranting international accountability, due to the targeting of infrastructure and civilian facilities, in blatant violation of international norms and agreements, exacerbating the state of instability in the region and threatening its security.
