2026 World Cup Final Under Maximum Security Measures with Trump in Attendance
SadaNews - The 2026 World Cup in football will conclude on Sunday in New Jersey, with 48 teams competing for the title to be claimed by the winner between Argentina and Spain.
However, the World Cup final scheduled to be held at MetLife Stadium has turned into the largest security operation in the history of sporting events in the United States, coinciding with the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump at the match and his presentation of the championship trophy to the winning team.
Authorities have imposed a no-fly zone over the stadium, with "F-16" fighters on standby and snipers on the rooftops of surrounding buildings, in addition to the involvement of thousands of personnel from the FBI and federal and local security agencies, categorized as a Level One security designation, the highest level reserved for special events in the United States, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Authorities have also warned fans to expect significant congestion and delays in reaching the stadium, urging supporters to arrive four hours before the match due to the heightened security measures accompanying Trump’s visit.
For his part, Andrew Giuliani, the Executive Director of the joint task force between the White House and FIFA, stated that the scale of the security operation exceeds that of the American football league final, noting that it is comparable to the arrangements for presidential inaugurations and "State of the Union" addresses.
Giuliani further explained that several federal agencies have joined the New Jersey State Police to secure the match, adding that $625 million from federal grants has been allocated to enhance security for the tournament, especially following the security incidents that the United States has witnessed in recent months.
According to the newspaper, security agencies, in collaboration with federal entities and private security firms, began planning for the final’s security two years ago, anticipating the presence of the U.S. president.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command also announced, as part of precautionary measures, that "F-16" fighters had already intercepted a small civilian aircraft that breached the prohibited airspace over the final area, before firing warning flares and forcing it to leave the area safely.
The Federal Aviation Administration has also imposed temporary flight restrictions in New York and New Jersey from Friday until the end of the match, while the FBI announced the confiscation of hundreds of drones that flew into restricted areas near the stadiums throughout the tournament.
According to the newspaper, the attendance of the U.S. president at sporting events often comes with extensive security measures, as seen during his attendance at last month’s American basketball league final in New York, when police closed several city streets to secure his movements.
The procedures taken by the U.S. Secret Service are expected to cause most of the delays fans will face at the stadium entrances.
For her part, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that Trump’s attendance will conclude what she described as "the most viewed, secure, and successful World Cup in the history of the United States."
It is worth mentioning that the U.S. president will participate in the ceremony to crown the champion, alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, after his attendance was anticipated since the beginning of the tournament.
