Kuwait: Iran Follows a Systematic Aggressive Approach Targeting Civilian Objects and Infrastructure

SadaNews - On Saturday, Kuwait condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted its territory, affirming that the repeated targeting of vital facilities represents a serious escalation and a violation of international law. This comes just hours after the country was subjected to a series of missile and drone attacks that hit two power generation and water distillation stations, as well as one vital site belonging to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, resulting in material losses and injuries, and prompting authorities to temporarily close the airspace and activate air defense systems.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that it "strongly condemns and denounces" the Iranian aggression that targeted the country on Saturday morning and affected another station of power generation and water distillation.

The ministry affirmed that the repeated targeting of these vital facilities reveals a "systematic aggressive approach" that targets civilian objects and fundamental infrastructure, putting the lives and safety of civilians at risk, in a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter, in addition to Security Council resolution No. 2817.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry held Iran "fully responsible" for the attack and its repercussions, demanding an immediate cessation of its aggressions against Kuwaiti territory.

The ministry emphasized that Kuwait retains its full right to take all necessary measures to maintain its security and defend its territory and vital facilities against any aggression or threat, based on its inherent right to self-defense under Article (51) of the United Nations Charter and principles of international law.

Earlier on Saturday, Kuwaiti authorities announced that air defense systems had countered missile and drone attacks, while two power generation and water distillation stations were attacked, resulting in fires. The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation also reported that one of its vital oil sites had been subjected to attacks that caused significant material losses and several injuries, while a number of firefighters and one worker were injured during firefighting operations at the targeted sites.
