Sources to "SadaNews": Under Pressure from Mediators, Israel Temporarily Halts Attacks in Gaza and Considers Response to the Factions Regarding Arms Restrictions
Exclusive to "SadaNews" - Palestinian sources disclosed to "SadaNews" that Turkey successfully convinced U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to pressure Israel to halt its attacks in the Gaza Strip for several days to allow for negotiations that took place in Cairo, which resulted in a consensus between the Palestinians and mediators regarding the roadmap prepared by Peace Council representative Nikolai Mladenov, which was presented to Hamas last April.
According to the sources, Israel has effectively stopped its attacks since dawn last Tuesday, and they remain halted, awaiting a response to what the mediators reached in an agreement with Hamas and the other seven factions that participated in the Cairo meetings, excluding the Fatah movement.
The sources indicated that Israel has not carried out any attacks in the sector since dawn Tuesday and no casualties have been officially reported except for three who succumbed to their injuries.
The Palestinian factions conditioned their approval on the restriction of arms and their storage, not their surrender, to be conducted by an agreed-upon Palestinian body, which is the Gaza Administration Committee, without handing them over to Israel, and that there would be clear monitoring and following up by the mediators and the international stabilization force concerning the restriction process, which will coincide with a complete withdrawal operation and a total cessation of Israeli violations and assassinations in the sector, according to what "SadaNews" followed up.
Mladenov is expected to arrive in Cairo carrying an Israeli response that may be positive or include amendments to what the factions and mediators reached during the Cairo meetings that lasted from Saturday to the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It is unclear how the factions will deal with Israel's response if it requests amendments or if it is negative.
The mediators succeeded in convincing Hamas and the seven participating factions to agree on the restriction of weapons, including heavy and light weapons, warning that the consequences could be severe.
If the ongoing efforts succeed while Hamas's delegation remains in Egypt, it is expected that this will be officially announced by the mediators if the response from Israel is positive.
The meetings in Cairo were attended by Egyptian Intelligence Minister Hassan Rashad, Turkish Intelligence Minister Ibrahim Kalın, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Participating factions included Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Popular Front - General Command, Resistance Committees, the National Initiative, and the Reform Stream "Dahlān Stream".
According to the sources that spoke to "SadaNews", the Palestinian factions fear Netanyahu may evade addressing the agreements due to unrealistic reasons related to the approaching Knesset elections, in which the Likud announced today that Netanyahu will be the party's candidate for its leadership in the upcoming elections.
It is well-known that Israeli elections have often used Palestinian blood as fuel for their candidates to reach their political ambitions, amid expectations of escalating attacks in Gaza in the coming days if the current efforts fail, and unless U.S. President Donald Trump pressures Benjamin Netanyahu to halt these attacks, at least temporarily, amid the ongoing efforts of the mediators.
Observers do not hide Trump's ability to influence Netanyahu and compel him to continue the ceasefire in Gaza, especially after he forced him to halt his attacks in the southern suburbs of Beirut and in Iran.
