Ukraine: Record Number of Civilian Deaths in a Single Month Since 3 Years
SadaNews - The United Nations has reported the highest number of civilian deaths and injuries in a single month in Ukraine since April 2022, with at least 274 people killed and 1,763 others injured in May, according to a report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The report released late Friday - Saturday indicates that this represents a 93 percent increase compared to May 2025, when 191 deaths and 865 injuries were recorded.
Rocket and drone attacks accounted for 45 percent of the casualties, most of them in cities far from the front line, such as Kyiv and Dnipro.
Near the front, short-range drones were the main cause of civilian losses, with 64 people killed and 539 injured due to drones in a single month in May, more than at any other time since the war began.
According to the United Nations, over 16,000 civilians have been killed and more than 46,000 others injured since the war began in February 2022.
Due to the inability to access territories occupied by Russia, not all casualties have been recorded in the UN statistics.
