Pakistan's Prime Minister: A deal between America and Iran is expected within 24 hours
SadaNews - Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said today, Saturday, that the United States and Iran have agreed on a framework for a peace agreement to end the ongoing war in the Middle East, following the finalization of the text of the agreement.
Sharif stated in a post on the "X" platform: "We are closer to a peace agreement than ever before, with the expectation of completing the agreement within the next 24 hours."
Sharif mentioned that Pakistan is now preparing to sign the agreement electronically, expected within the next 24 hours, which will be followed by technical-level talks throughout the week.
The Pakistani Prime Minister expressed confidence that the "historic agreement" between Washington and Tehran will establish "lasting peace."
On Friday, the United States and Iran indicated that they were close to reaching an agreement to end the war between them, while a senior U.S. official stated that the two sides had agreed on a text, and Washington is expected to sign a preliminary agreement in the coming days.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said it is still possible to make amendments to the text, but the preliminary agreement clearly shows that his country has emerged from the conflict stronger.
Araghchi stated in an interview with state television on Friday: "Once we complete the final stages of our negotiations, this agreement will be signed and announced," noting that this "could happen within the coming days. I am very optimistic."
In Washington, a senior American official estimated on Friday that there is an 80 to 85% chance, but it is "not 100%" for signing an agreement with Iran in the "coming days." He added, "We have not reached the finish line yet, but we are very close."
This war, which erupted following U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has sparked a crisis in the Middle East, resulting in the deaths of thousands, particularly in Iran and Lebanon, as well as shaking the pillars of the global economy.
A ceasefire agreement on April 8 led to a lull that was broken by intermittent clashes and U.S. airstrikes on Iran, alongside Iranian strikes targeting locations in the Gulf Arab states, with separate escalations between Israel and Iran, including missile strikes and air bombardments.
