Trump: The Terms Leaked by Iran Have Nothing to Do with What Was Actually Agreed Upon
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that the leaked Iranian statements regarding the terms of the agreement with the United States do not represent what was actually agreed upon.
Trump wrote in a post on his platform "Truth Social": "The terms leaked by Iran... have nothing to do with the terms that were agreed upon in writing. What they said... has no connection to the truth," considering that "what they said, including their pathetic claim of an agreement, has no relation to reality."
The U.S. president observed that the Iranian officials "lack integrity in dealing and do not understand the meaning of good faith negotiation," adding: "They need to sort themselves out quickly!".
Iran's state media had reported earlier on Friday that Tehran would not give up control over the Strait of Hormuz under the draft memorandum of understanding being worked on with the United States, and would insist on what it considers its rights in the nuclear file in any negotiations.
This came after Tehran announced on Friday that it had not yet made a decision regarding the agreement announced by Trump to end the war in the Middle East, and his talk about the possibility of signing it starting from the end of this week.
The official "Irna" agency reported that "the outlines of this text" are being developed, but emphasized that "Iran does not provide in this text any commitment to relinquish control of the strait or return to the conditions that existed prior to the U.S.-Israeli military aggression".
Meanwhile, the Iranian agency "Mehr" published what it described as a 14-point draft memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington. Mehr reported that the memorandum includes "an immediate and permanent cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon". It added that it grants "60 days for negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement on nuclear issues and the complete lifting of primary and secondary U.S. sanctions".
Furthermore, "Irna" noted that Iran would insist on its "rights" in the nuclear field in any negotiations with the United States. It stated: "Iran will negotiate on the nuclear program exclusively within the framework of the fundamental rights of the Islamic Republic, focusing on issues such as Iran's right to enrich uranium and retain enriched materials... aiming to incorporate them into the final agreement."
Also, the draft published by "Mehr" included the release of $24 billion of frozen Iranian assets. "Mehr" reported that the memorandum allows for "the release of $24 billion of Iran's frozen assets within a 60-day period for negotiating the final agreement," adding that half of this amount "will become available to Iran before the start of negotiations" on the final agreement.
