Sources for SadaNews: Anticipated Agreement in Cairo.. Palestinian Factions Move Towards Weapon Restrictions
Exclusive to SadaNews: The Egyptian capital, Cairo, is experiencing charged political atmospheres today, with expectations of an announcement regarding the Palestinian factions’ agreement to gradually restrict weapons within the Gaza Strip, based on a timeline agreed upon by the parties involved in the talks, according to sources for SadaNews.
Informed sources for SadaNews confirmed that this announcement comes after a series of intensive meetings that started on Saturday and continued until the early hours of Tuesday, with the participation of 8 Palestinian factions, in the absence of Fatah movement.
The talks, described as positive, were attended by the Prime Minister and the Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Al Thani, alongside the Turkish and Egyptian intelligence ministers.
The discussions focused on a "roadmap" consisting of 15 points, which had been presented by the UN Special Coordinator for Gaza, Nikolai Mladenov, to the Hamas movement last April, to serve as a basis for the new understandings.
While the Palestinian side insists on implementing the first phase of the agreement, which includes the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the occupied territories and the entry of aid and goods into the Strip, Tel Aviv is pressing for the disarmament of the factions as one of the main provisions of the second phase. This comes amid ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement announced last October, which has resulted in the martyrdom of over 970 Palestinians since then.
