Senior US Official: Washington Will Receive Enriched Materials from Iran and the Agreement Includes Lebanon

SadaNews - A senior US official said on Friday evening that Washington will receive enriched materials under the agreement with Iran, and noted that the deal to end the war will also include Lebanon.

The official, in a phone call with journalists, stated that the understanding "includes Lebanon, Iran, Gulf countries, and Israel".

He estimated that there is a chance ranging from 80% to 85%, but it is "not 100%", for signing an agreement with Iran in the "coming days".

He mentioned in statements to journalists, "We expect to sign this agreement within the next few days. I cannot pinpoint an exact date".

The official added, "If I were to assert my confidence that we will sign the agreement, I might say 75% this morning, and perhaps the percentage now is closer to 80-85%, but it is not 100%".

He indicated that "if Iran complies, it will be rewarded economically", adding that the agreement "ensures long-term peace in the region and includes an inspection mechanism that guarantees long-term and enforceable compliance".

The US official continued, "There will be a relief of sanctions based on Iran's performance and commitment to the agreement".

He clarified that "one of the most prominent points of contention in the negotiations was the wording of the commitment to destroy the enriched materials", while warning that "if Iran does not adhere to its commitments under the agreement, we do not expect Israel to refrain from responding".

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the final text of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran has been agreed upon.

Sharif wrote on the "X" platform: "We can confirm that a final and agreed text of the peace agreement has been reached, and Pakistan is currently working closely with both parties to finalize the next steps". He added, "Peace has never been closer than it is now".

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the United States and Iran are "closer than ever" to reaching an agreement to end the war.

Araghchi wrote on the "X" platform that the "Islamabad memorandum is closer than ever", referring to the capital of Pakistan, which plays a major mediation role between the two countries. He added after Iranian media published alleged details about the draft of understanding, "While awaiting the completion of the agreement, media should refrain from speculating about its content".

For his part, Sharif continued, "In light of Pakistan's intensive mediation efforts, we are fully aware of the ongoing media disinformation campaign launched by those seeking to sabotage the peace agreement".

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that the leaks published by some Iranian media regarding the draft memorandum between Tehran and Washington are not related to what has been agreed upon, accusing Tehran of not negotiating in good faith.

Trump wrote in a post on his "Truth Social" platform, "The terms leaked by Iran.... are not related to the terms that were agreed upon in writing. What they said... has nothing to do with the truth", considering that the Iranians "lack integrity in dealing, and do not know the meaning of good faith". He added, "They need to sort out their situation quickly!".
