Sheikh and Egypt's Foreign Minister Discuss Developments in Palestine via Phone

SadaNews - A phone call took place today, Saturday, between Palestinian National Authority Deputy Chairman Hussein Sheikh and Egypt's Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation for Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aty, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination concerning developments in the Palestinian territories.

The call addressed the efforts made to implement the requirements of the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan, including ensuring full and sustainable access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire and secure humanitarian aid access, as well as enabling the National Committee for Gaza to carry out its tasks from within the sector until the Palestinian Authority can assume its full responsibilities, which contributes to enhancing stability and preparing the conditions to transition to the subsequent phases of settlement efforts.

The call also discussed the serious developments in the West Bank, where Minister Abdel-Aty condemned the increasing pace of settlement activities and the continuing Israeli violations in East Jerusalem and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, warning of the repercussions of these actions on the prospects for peace and stability in the region.

During the call, the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt's steadfast positions that support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is their right to establish an independent state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, emphasizing the necessity of enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities and maintaining the unity of Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as this is fundamental to any fair and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.

For his part, Palestinian National Authority Deputy Chairman Hussein Sheikh expressed his appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and Egypt's ongoing efforts to halt escalation and achieve a ceasefire, alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of continuing coordination and consultation during the upcoming phase.
