Mutual Attacks and Casualties in Russian Attack in Eastern Ukraine

SadaNews - Five people were killed and 14 injured following a Russian attack on the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, while Moscow announced the downing of 310 Ukrainian drones overnight.

The governor of Zaporizhzhia, Ivan Fedorov, stated via the Telegram app that five people were killed and 14 injured as a result of a Russian attack targeting the southeastern region of Ukraine.

Fedorov explained that the Russian forces launched attacks using air strikes, drones, and artillery shelling, causing damage to infrastructure, residential buildings, and vehicles.

The governor of Odesa, Oleh Kiper, also announced via Telegram that Russian attacks targeted energy infrastructure in the region, resulting in power cuts for more than a thousand people.

Kiper noted that the attacks caused damage to energy facilities, affecting electricity supplies in several areas, while the relevant authorities are working to restore service to those affected.

Downing of Ukrainian Drones

In Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement today, Monday, that its air defense systems shot down 310 Ukrainian drones over several Russian regions last night.

The ministry stated, "During the night, from 8:00 PM on Sunday to 8:00 AM on Monday Moscow time, the deployed air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 310 Ukrainian drones."

The statement added that the drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov, Oryol, Tula, Lipetsk, Kaluga, and Ryazan regions, as well as over the Krasnodar region, Moscow region, Crimea, and over the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Moscow and Kyiv have intensified mutual drone attacks in recent months amid stalled diplomatic efforts led by the United States to end a war that has entered its fifth year, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths and forcing millions to flee.

Russia currently occupies about 20% of its neighbor's territory, including the Crimean Peninsula, which it annexed in 2014, most of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the east (Donbas region), and large areas of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions to the south.
