Burial Sites Covered in Al-Qassam Cemetery: A New Violation of Endowment Sanctity

SadaNews - The Sheikh Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cemetery, located in the city of "Nesher" on the lands of the abandoned village of Bald Sheikh east of Haifa in the Galilee region, has suffered a serious violation manifested in burying parts of the cemetery with construction debris, leading to the obliteration of several graves.

The trustees of the Haifa endowment reported that the attack occurred at night (the night before last), where a person dumped large quantities of construction waste approximately half a meter high in the area adjacent to the railway line beneath the cemetery, covering an area estimated to be about five donums and obscuring graves known to the endowment officials.

The trustees pointed out that the targeted area is part of a section claimed by an Israeli company, measuring about 15 donums out of a total of 44 donums, which is the total area of the cemetery, noting that this case is subject to legal dispute that has reached the courts, including the Supreme Court, amid accusations of attempts to convert the land into a profit-driven investment project at the expense of the sanctity of the graves.

Following the incident, communication was made with a representative of the Higher Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens, As'ad Khairullah, who attended the site and contributed to stopping the continuation of the work, while people and surveyors were present at the location. The police were also called to the site.
