Busisu discusses with the Italian Consul enhancing cooperation in the fields of roads, infrastructure, and reconstruction

SadaNews - Minister of Public Works and Housing, Ahed Faiq Busisu, urged the Italian Consul General, Domenico Bilato, to explore ways to enhance joint cooperation on several vital issues, primarily reconstruction, as well as discussing mechanisms for importing materials, developing the ministry's capabilities, and strengthening efforts in the roads and infrastructure sector.

Busisu emphasized the depth of Palestinian-Italian relations, appreciating Italy's continued support for the Palestinian people and its humanitarian and developmental role in light of the current challenges.

The meeting addressed the Italian grant, discussing the possibility of directing part of it towards projects that serve the ministry's priorities, especially in the roads and infrastructure sector.

The two sides also discussed the issue of reconstruction in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the pivotal role of the ministry in areas such as debris removal and recycling, providing shelter, rehabilitating roads, and assessing damages.

Additionally, they reviewed the on-the-ground interventions carried out by the ministry in cooperation with international organizations linked by memorandums of cooperation, notably the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), along with non-profit organizations working in debris removal, road opening, and shelter establishment, in coordination with local authorities and municipalities. They also discussed the possibility of enhancing support from the Italian government and its institutions for these efforts.

For his part, the Italian Consul reviewed the areas of support provided by his country, particularly in the education and health sectors, affirming the importance of supporting the Ministry of Public Works' efforts, especially concerning the Gaza Strip.

Both sides agreed to continue coordinating and consulting jointly, opening broader horizons for cooperation in the upcoming phase.
