Extension of Activist Tamer Khalifa's Detention for the Fourth Time at the Haifa Magistrate's Court

SadaNews - The Haifa Magistrate's Court extended the detention of activist Tamer Khalifa from the city of Umm al-Fahm for the fourth time today, Monday, until next Thursday.

Defense attorney Ahmad Khalifa stated that today marks the fourth extension since Tamer's arrest, and during this session, the judge decided to extend his detention for an additional three days, until next Thursday, conditional on the presentation of new and substantial evidence in the case file. The judge noted that the number of investigations conducted is limited, and completing them requires three more days.

Regarding the conditions of detention, he clarified that "the publication ban on details of the case is still in effect, but Tamer's and the other detainees' circumstances are difficult, as we hear from them." He added, "We hope that Tamer will be with us this coming Thursday."

The police had requested to extend Khalifa's detention for 8 days, but the court was content with just three days.

The public prosecutor's office and police have attributed security suspicions to Khalifa, who is undergoing ongoing investigations by the Israeli internal security service (Shabak).

This session for the extension of detention was held publicly, a first since the beginning of considering his case, with the session conducted via "Zoom" with Tamer Khalifa present.

During the session, the judge allowed members of Khalifa's family and several activists present to greet him, a gesture that received a positive response from those in attendance in the courtroom.

The court had extended Khalifa's detention in previous sessions, and another session is scheduled for Thursday to reconsider the file of his arrest from his home in the Al-Ayoun neighborhood of Umm al-Fahm since March 2.
