Popular Federations in Sweden Hold Meeting with the General Union of Civil Organizations to Discuss Strengthening the Resilience of the Palestinian People

SadaNews - On Saturday, the Popular Federations of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Sweden held a political dialogue meeting via video conferencing (Zoom). The meeting included representatives from Palestinian communities across several European countries and the President and Board members of the General Union of Palestinian Civil Organizations, to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories and ways to enhance the role of civil institutions in supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people.

The meeting comes in light of the serious developments in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem, and the ongoing escalation faced by the Palestinian people. It aims to strengthen the partnership between civil society institutions in the homeland and the Palestinian communities in Europe, as well as to unify efforts in areas of relief, human rights work, and grassroots diplomacy.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ahmad Suleiman, a member of the administrative body of the General Union of the Palestinian Community in Sweden, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of enhancing communication and coordination between Palestinian civil institutions and communities abroad, in a way that contributes to expanding support for the Palestinian people.

Among the attendees were Mohammad Sharif Zidan, the official in charge of the civil work file at the Commission of Civil and Non-Governmental Organizations, Dr. Bassim Al-Tamimi, President of the General Union of Palestinian Civil Organizations and President of the National Union of Palestinian Civil Institutions, Ahmad Alwan, a board member representing the National Union of Civil Institutions in Gaza, Taghreed Nasser representing the Youth Institutions Network, and Walid Nazzal representing the Deaf Association.

Participants discussed the role of Palestinian youth at the current stage and the importance of empowering them and involving them in national and institutional work, which contributes to conveying the Palestinian narrative to the world. They also highlighted the importance of supporting persons with disabilities and enhancing their participation in community work.

The meeting also addressed human rights issues and international legitimacy decisions related to the Palestinian cause, and the importance of utilizing them in diplomatic and legal work to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, alongside enhancing communication with the international community through civil institutions and Palestinian communities abroad.

Participants stressed the important role of Palestinian communities in Europe in supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people, and enhancing networking among Palestinian youth in the homeland and the diaspora, which contributes to conveying the Palestinian narrative to international forums.

The meeting concluded with a call for the continued coordination and cooperation between Palestinian civil institutions and communities in Europe, and the development of joint action mechanisms in relief, human rights, and diplomatic fields, to enhance the resilience of the Palestinian people.
