The Occupation Revokes the Identity of Jerusalemite Released Prisoner Rashid Al-Rashq
SadaNews - The occupation authorities, through the "Hamoked" human rights organization, informed the released Jerusalemite prisoner Rashid Al-Rashq of an official decision to revoke his permanent Jerusalem identity. This action comes after he gained his freedom on January 30, 2025, as part of a prisoner exchange deal, having served nearly 14 years in prison.
Al-Rashq confirmed that this decision goes beyond simply revoking an identification card; it is an attempt to uproot a person from his city and sever his historical and geographical connections to his land and home. He emphasized that this step aims to strip him of his basic rights to exist within Jerusalem, describing it as a process of forced displacement targeting the human and historical ties of the Jerusalemites.
Regarding the ground implications of the decision, Al-Rashq explained that, due to the revocation of his identity, he will not be able to move freely within the city of Jerusalem as he did previously, and he will also be deprived of crossing the military barriers that separate him from his home located in the Old City.
This decision places the released prisoner in a complex living and legal reality that prevents him from accessing his residence and normal life in the heart of the city.
