Jordan's King Warns Against Exploiting Conflict to Impose a New Reality in Palestine
SadaNews - On Tuesday, King Abdullah II received a phone call from the President of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, whose country is currently chairing the fifteenth session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation conference.
During the call, the implications of the escalation in the region and the Iranian bombings on Jordan and several neighboring countries were discussed. The King emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve de-escalation through dialogue and the use of diplomatic channels, warning against exploiting the current developments as a pretext to violate the freedom of worshippers' access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Qudsi Al-Sharif, and to change the status quo in the West Bank and Gaza.
For his part, the Gambian president underscored the necessity of exercising restraint, respecting international law, and protecting civilians in the Middle East.
King Abdullah also received a phone call from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to discuss regional developments and ways to reduce escalation.
He stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of states and to resort to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve crises, pointing to Jordan's continued efforts to take all necessary measures to protect its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens.
He warned against exploiting the ongoing conflict in the region to impose a new reality in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza.
