Police Unveils Designer of Fake AI-Generated "Rocket" Image and Arrests Him in Tulkarem
SadaNews - Early this morning, the police managed to uncover the circumstances surrounding the circulation of an image of a "rocket" in the Shuwayka area north of Tulkarem city, after it was found to be a forged image created using artificial intelligence techniques, causing fear, panic, and confusion among citizens.
The police spokesperson, Major Louay Arzeqat, clarified that the image was published and circulated on social media and some media outlets as if it were genuine, raising concern among citizens in the area. Immediately, the general investigation department of the police commenced search and investigation procedures, gathering information and tracking the source of the image. The technical follow-up led to the identification of a suspect in Tulkarem city, who was arrested. Upon questioning, he stated that he had designed the image using artificial intelligence techniques and published it on social media despite knowing it was not true.
Arzeqat confirmed that the suspect has been detained to complete legal procedures and was referred to the public prosecutor for appropriate legal action against him.
He also reiterated his warning to citizens against spreading false news or unverified images on social media due to its impact on inciting panic and disruption and threatening societal peace, emphasizing the necessity of obtaining information from official sources.
