Electoral Committee Announces Preliminary Figures for the Local Elections 2026 Nomination Phase

SadaNews - The Central Electoral Committee announced today, Tuesday, the preliminary figures for the nomination phase of the 2026 local councils elections, which ended yesterday, Monday.

Municipal Councils

The committee stated that the total number of municipalities is (137), where (370) lists were submitted, with the total number of candidates being (4,439), distributed as follows:

- (83) municipalities where more than one list was nominated, and elections will be held there, including Deir al-Balah.

- (37) municipalities registered one complete list of nominations (endorsement).

- (6) municipalities submitted one incomplete list.

- (4) municipalities did not submit any list.

- (7) municipalities are still waiting to complete deficiencies in nomination applications.

Rural Councils

The committee indicated that the rural councils, which have nine seats and are nominated individually, number (284), with the number of candidates reaching (2,800) distributed as follows:

- (110) villages nominated more candidates than available seats, and elections will be held there.

- (81) villages nominated an equal number of candidates to the seats (endorsement).

- (56) villages nominated fewer candidates than the number of seats.

- (37) villages did not have any candidates nominated.

The Central Electoral Committee confirmed that this data is preliminary, and the next three days are designated for correcting the applications, meaning that the numbers may see limited changes, especially regarding candidates and lists that have not yet completed their paperwork.

It is noteworthy that the Electoral Committee will publish next Saturday the preliminary list of candidates and lists for public viewing and for anyone wishing to submit objections.
