10 Martyrs Including Leaders of Hezbollah in Airstrikes on Lebanon Amid Political Condemnation
SadaNews - The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Saturday morning that the number of martyrs from the Israeli airstrike on several towns in the Bekaa has risen to 10.
The ministry, in its latest tally, stated that the number of injuries has increased to 24 with varying degrees of wounds, including 3 children.
The airstrikes targeted a building on the outskirts of the town of Riak near the highway and a building in the town of Badnayel, while a third airstrike targeted a building on the outskirts of the town of Tamnin al-Tahtha. Israeli aircraft also targeted the Sha'ra area in the Nabi Sheet outskirts with three airstrikes.
The Lebanese newspaper Al-Nahar quoted sources in Hezbollah stating that one of the targets in the airstrikes in the Bekaa was Hezbollah leader Hussein Yaghi, the son of former MP Mohammed Hassan Yaghi, known by his nom de guerre "Haj Abu Salim Yaghi".
Mohammed Hassan Yaghi is considered one of the prominent political figures in Hezbollah, having previously served as a parliamentary deputy for the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc. He is also regarded as one of the party's founders in 1982 and has held several leadership positions, including the executive assistant to the party's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
According to circulating information, Hussein Yaghi also held an executive position within the party structure, related to organizational tasks associated with the leadership of the General Secretariat.
There are reports that among those targeted was also Hussein al-Nammr, the party's head in the Bekaa, in addition to Muhammad Ibrahim al-Moussawi and Ali Zaid al-Moussawi, who were with Yaghi in a residential apartment.
In a statement, Hezbollah declared that condemnations and denouncements are no longer effective, as the blood of Lebanese is not a cheap commodity, and that the authorities in Lebanon must adopt a radical change in their approach to defending the homeland and not allow what happened last night in the Bekaa and what happens every night in southern Lebanon to pass as normal and ordinary.
The statement added: The government and the entire state must bear their responsibilities seriously, away from the policies of submission and surrender that only increase the criminal enemy's audacity to threaten Lebanon's security.
Moreover, engaging in more political maneuvers without strength is merely a waste of time, lives, and losses in this country.
Meanwhile, the President of Lebanon, General Joseph Aoun, strongly condemned the airstrikes carried out by Israel from land and sea, targeting the Sidon area and towns in the Bekaa, considering that "the continuation of these attacks constitutes a flagrant act of hostility aimed to thwart the diplomatic efforts being made by Lebanon with sister and friendly countries, primarily the United States, to establish stability and halt Israeli hostilities against Lebanon."
He affirmed that "these airstrikes represent a new violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and a clear breach of international commitments, reflecting a disregard for the will of the international community, especially the United Nations resolutions calling for full adherence to Resolution 1701 and its implementation in all its aspects."
He renewed his call for the countries sponsoring stability in the region to "shoulder their responsibilities to immediately stop the aggressions and press for respect of international resolutions, which would safeguard Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity and spare the region further escalation and tension."
