Civil Organizations Condemn the Murder of the Sumara Children in Tammoun and Demand an Independent Investigation

SadaNews - The Palestinian Network of Civil Organizations follows with great shock and sorrow the repercussions of the tragic incident that occurred in the town of Tammoun south of Tubas, which resulted in the death of two children, Ali Samer Sumara (15 years old) and Ronza Samer Sumara (4 years old), by gunfire from members of one of the Palestinian security forces while attempting to arrest their father who has been pursued by the Israeli occupation for years.

While extending its condolences to the Sumara family, the network affirms that what happened represents a serious violation of the law and national, ethical, and professional standards, deviating from the presumed duties of security forces in protecting citizens, especially children and women. The transformation of security pursuit into a field murder against innocent children, who are already victims of occupation and ongoing persecutions, is completely unacceptable. This reflects the repeated refusal of security forces to implement Palestinian judicial decisions and continues the trend of impunity for security forces regarding their serious violations against citizens, including the delay of justice in the case of martyr Nizar Banat.

Accordingly, the Palestinian Network of Civil Organizations demands the following:
1. The formation of an independent and transparent investigation committee to uncover the circumstances of this heinous crime, accurately identify those responsible, and announce the results to the Palestinian public without hesitation or concealment.

2. The immediate suspension of the special unit and the personnel involved in this attack, in addition to all those who issued the orders for this mission, from work completely and immediately, as a precautionary measure until the investigation results are out and their fair trial begins.

3. Holding all those involved in this crime accountable according to the maximum provisions of the law, to serve as a deterrent to anyone who might dare to disregard Palestinian blood, affirming that the lives of Palestinian children are not cheap and not merely a number in the record of events.

4. Disclosure of the fate of the citizen Samer Sumara and the place of his detention, enabling his family and human rights organizations to visit him.

The network recalls at this painful moment that the blood of Palestinian children is a red line, and what happened in Tammoun represents a deep wound in the national conscience. We call on all human rights and legal institutions to urgently act to pursue the perpetrators and ensure that such crimes, which threaten the social fabric in light of a bloody assault led by the Israeli occupation against all Palestinians, do not recur.
