General strike and day of mourning in Yirka in protest against murder crimes
SadaNews - The local council in Yirka, in the Galilee region of northern Israel, announced a complete and total strike today, Sunday, in response to the recent murder crimes that have occurred in the town.
The council clarified in a statement that the strike includes the local council, as well as all educational institutions at various stages, including schools, special education, kindergartens, nurseries, and home-based care, in addition to all extracurricular activities. The strike also includes health facilities and health fund offices, all large and small commercial shops, factories, and car dealerships without exception.
The council called on the residents of Yirka to uphold unity and patience, and to work with various forces of good, peace, and reconciliation in the town to establish civil peace, and to make continuous efforts to halt the bloodshed.
It also urged the residents to join the march that will take place today from the Al-Barakah Square at one o'clock in the afternoon towards the Western People's House, to raise their voices against violence.
The head of the local council, Salman Mulla, emphasized the necessity for everyone to commit to the strike as a unified expression against violence and crime.
Protest meetings have been organized in Yirka with the participation of many residents against violence and crime in recent days.
The step of the strike comes amid a concerning escalation in the pace of murder and violence within the Arab community, where several towns, including Yirka, are experiencing a state of tension and popular anger in light of repeated incidents of gunfire and casualties.
Residents and local leaders are demanding enhanced security, and the implementation of a comprehensive plan to combat crime, while working to establish civil peace and halt the ongoing bloodshed.
