$449 million in revenues from the Suez Canal since the beginning of the current year
Sada News - The Egyptian government announced that revenues from the Suez Canal increased by 22% since the beginning of the current year, reaching $449 million as of February 7, 2026.
The Prime Minister's office stated in a press release today, Wednesday, that shipping traffic in the canal experienced significant improvement during the period from January 1 to February 7, with 1,315 ships crossing and total net tonnage amounting to 56 million tons, compared to 1,243 ships with a net tonnage of 47 million tons during the same period last year, which recorded revenues of $368 million at that time, according to the German news agency "dpa".
The statement clarified that the increased crossing rates reflect the Suez Canal's success in maintaining its global position and client trust, in addition to its flexibility in dealing with the surrounding economic and geopolitical challenges.
Canal revenues returned to annual growth after two years of contraction, recording $4.2 billion in 2025 compared to $4 billion in 2024, with a growth rate of 4%, according to the informational bulletin issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.
The improvement was driven by strong performance in the last months of the previous year, as revenues in December 2025 soared to $393 million compared to $300 million in December 2024, achieving an annual growth rate of 31%.
