SadaNews - Under the patronage and presence of Interior Minister Major General Ziad Heb Al-Reeh, the Civil Defense Directorate received urgent rescue and firefighting equipment today, Thursday, January 29, 2026, provided by the Korean government through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), as part of efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Civil Defense and increase its preparedness for emergency response and protection of lives.

A report indicated that the handover ceremony was held at the Civil Defense Directorate in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh Governorate, in the presence of the Korean Ambassador to the State of Palestine, Young-Kul Koh, the Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Palestine, Mr. Minjeong Kim, local community members, and partners.

During the ceremony, the Interior Minister emphasized the importance of this qualitative support in enabling the Civil Defense Directorate to perform its humanitarian and national duties, praising the depth of Palestinian-Korean cooperation and friendship and the role the Korean government plays in supporting vital sectors related to citizens' safety.

For his part, the Director General of Civil Defense explained that this equipment represents a qualitative addition to the Directorate's capabilities, including mobile air filling devices used to refill breathing cylinders at the event site, which enhances the efficiency of firefighting crews, especially in fires and closed spaces, in addition to advanced hydraulic equipment used in rescue incidents and road accidents, contributing to speeding up rescue operations, protecting lives, and reducing losses.

The Korean Ambassador to Palestine expressed pride in the partnership with the State of Palestine, confirming the Korean government's and Korea International Cooperation Agency's (KOICA) commitment to continue supporting the Palestinian Civil Defense Directorate, believing in the importance of enhancing readiness and rapid emergency response, and supporting humanitarian efforts that contribute to protecting lives and serving the Palestinian community.

It is noteworthy that this support is considered a step in a continuous cooperation pathway with the Korean side, which will include in the future the provision of specialized equipment, the implementation of qualitative training programs, and support for establishing new Civil Defense centers and directorates in the governorates of the homeland, within the approved strategic plans.
