Palestinian People's Party: Canceling the Political Commitment Condition in the Elections Law is a Positive Step that Enhances National Partnership and Democracy

SadaNews - The political bureau of the Palestinian People's Party issued a press statement, which stated:
The political bureau views positively and importantly the cancellation of the exclusionary political condition included in the presidential decree concerning the law of elections for local governance bodies, which had constituted a constraint on the right to run and participate, and contradicted the principles of political pluralism and democratic action.

The party emphasized that this retreat represents a correct step reflecting the importance of responding to the demands of political and societal forces, thereby enhancing confidence in the electoral process and opening the door for broader popular participation in local affairs management.
The Palestinian People's Party considers this development a result of the collective effort of political and societal forces, and their political and legal efforts, including the vital role played by civil society institutions and human rights organizations, as well as the movements and public meetings in several governorates, which clearly expressed their rejection of any exclusionary conditions and called for conducting elections on schedule based on sound democratic principles.
The party emphasizes that this achievement is not limited to its legal dimension but carries significant political and national implications, affirming that unifying efforts around common issues constitutes the essential entry point to confront the challenges faced by our people, strengthen their resilience, and revitalize Palestinian political life on democratic foundations.
The Palestinian People's Party affirms the necessity of building on this step and continuing dialogue and joint work to ensure fair democratic elections based on proportional representation, which guarantees national partnership and serves the unity of our ranks and the ability of our people to face current political and national challenges.
