The Public Prosecution Signs a Judicial Cooperation Memorandum with Its Counterpart in Egypt
SadaNews - The Public Prosecution of the State of Palestine and the Public Prosecution of the Arab Republic of Egypt signed a memorandum of judicial cooperation and a joint cooperation protocol, as part of enhancing institutional partnership and developing mechanisms for judicial cooperation between the two sides, which solidifies the rule of law and enhances the effectiveness of criminal justice.
The signing took place in the presence of the Attorney General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Counselor Mohamed Shawky, the Attorney General of the State of Palestine, Counselor Akram Al-Khateeb, His Excellency the Consul General of the State of Palestine in Alexandria, Mohamed Shuqura, along with a group of chief prosecutors from both the Egyptian and Palestinian public prosecution offices, on the sidelines of the opening of the international workshop for heads of specialized prosecution offices combating emerging crimes, with the participation of several heads and members of the public prosecution and experts and specialists in cybercrime and transnational crime.
The judicial cooperation memorandum and joint cooperation protocol aim to establish a sustainable legal and institutional framework for judicial cooperation, including the exchange of experiences and information, enhancing coordination in cross-border cases, and developing the capacities of public prosecution members, particularly in the fields of cybercrime, specialized investigations, parallel financial investigations, and the recovery of criminal proceeds, in accordance with national legislations and relevant international obligations, while respecting the principle of national sovereignty and the independence of the judiciary.
In his speech, the Attorney General of the State of Palestine stated that this meeting reflects the depth of the historical relationship and the shared responsibility between Palestine and Egypt, emphasizing that the Palestinian public prosecution continues to fulfill its constitutional and legal duty to protect society despite political, security, and economic challenges and attempts to undermine the work of justice. He stressed that emerging and transnational crimes necessitate transitioning to an integrated judicial work based on partnership and the exchange of expertise, considering that the memorandum of understanding signed today represents a sustainable legal framework that enhances judicial cooperation and enables the Palestinian public prosecution to develop its tools and uphold the rule of law, as it is a cornerstone of the resilience and continuity of the Palestinian state.
For his part, Counselor Mohamed Shawky, Attorney General of the Arab Republic of Egypt, affirmed that this occasion highlights the strength of the historical relationship between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Palestine. He stated that Egypt, as a leadership, people, and institutions, has been and remains a steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and its institutions, especially the judicial institution, noting that the signing of the protocols is a practical translation of this support through enhancing judicial cooperation in combating serious and emerging crimes, and building the capacities of Palestinian judicial personnel, which contributes to enhancing justice and the resilience of the Palestinian community.
The international workshop's sessions also commenced, addressing several advanced topics related to combating cybercrime, including legal and procedural challenges associated with digital evidence, modern investigation methods, and international judicial cooperation mechanisms, amid the rapid technological advancements and the escalation of transnational crime.
This event comes as part of the ongoing efforts by both public prosecutions to enhance joint judicial work, develop tools for criminal justice, and build effective legal partnerships that contribute to protecting communities and upholding the rule of law.
