National Popular Conference for Jerusalem: The demolition in Silwan is part of the comprehensive Israeli war on the Holy City.
SadaNews - The General Secretariat of the National Popular Conference for Jerusalem condemned today, Monday, the actions of the Israeli occupation authorities in demolishing a residential building of several floors and apartments in the town of Silwan, adjacent to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which displaced around 100 citizens into the open air.
The General Secretariat stated in a statement regarding this matter that this arbitrary action falls within the framework of the comprehensive war waged by the Israeli occupation state against our people in Jerusalem, aiming to force them into forced migration to make the city a safe and stable refuge for settlers, who exceed "250,000" extremist and religious settlers who refuse to coexist with the Palestinian people, and even reject the idea from its very foundation.
The General Secretariat pointed out that this brutal aggression against the town of Silwan and the displacement of 100 of its people demands a serious and clear position from the international community to deter the occupying state and put an end to the policy of displacement it practices against the residents of Jerusalem to resolve the city's status without negotiation.
The General Secretariat emphasized that despite all that Jerusalem suffers from systematic Israeli aggression, whether on the geographical, demographic, economic, or educational levels, its residents will not be deterred from steadfastness, staying, and clinging to their land and home, and to the right to housing which Israel denies them through a series of coercive measures taken by the occupying municipality, such as raising the Arnona tax and increasing the cost of obtaining building permits, depriving the residents of Jerusalem after they have been financially drained.
The General Secretariat considered that Israel's malicious intentions towards Jerusalem have become evident, and through this demolition operation, it has opened wide the door for similar operations that will include villages and towns in the governorate, with the always-declared justification being "unauthorized construction"?? asking: Is settlement licensed? Is it legitimate? Does Israel have the right to replace the original inhabitants of the city with newcomers from various parts of the world to achieve demographic balance or to make Jerusalem have a Jewish majority?
The General Secretariat warned that this policy could drag the entire region, not just Jerusalem, into a state of perpetual confrontation whose outcomes no one knows, stressing that Jerusalem is the key to war and the key to peace, and Israel must choose between these two options, affirming that our people will not abandon their land or their holy sites, no matter the cost.
