Western Warnings of Possible Israeli Attacks in Iraq... and Intelligence Denies

SadaNews: Over the past two weeks, media reports have circulated that the Iraqi government received warning messages from Arab and Western entities indicating that Israel is planning to launch large-scale military operations on Iraqi territory in the near future.

In an official response, the Iraqi News Agency issued a statement on behalf of the intelligence service denying any receipt of warning messages concerning combat attacks within the country.

Iraqi sources clarified that the warnings received from a Western intelligence agency, prepared in Israel, included precise information about Iran-backed militias, including senior officials, mysterious figures operating in their vicinity, financial and commercial entities linked to them, in addition to government institutions under their influence, according to what was reported by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Officials confirmed that "the accuracy of the information and its extensive nature surprised Baghdad," noting that the timing of the arrival of these data was extremely important. The report also stated that Western intelligence informed Iraq that Israel may be preparing to carry out a large-scale operation against the militias, targeting government institutions linked to them, the Popular Mobilization Forces, influential economic and military figures, in addition to locations and warehouses for drones and missiles and training camps.

These developments prompted some Iraqi factions to express a willingness to make concessions, including a call to limit weapons to the state, along with a request for a timeframe to complete the dismantling of their military capabilities internally, away from external pressures, a matter that remains a point of contention among the leaders of the factions and Shia currents.
