Albañez Criticizes Allowing Israel to Participate in the Eurovision Song Contest
SadaNews - The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine, Francesca Albañez, criticized the allowance of Israel's participation in the "Eurovision 2026" song contest.
Albañez pointed out in a post on the platform "X" last night that Israel has not been expelled from the United Nations, nor from other international forums, nor from the UEFA (European football association), nor from FIFA (International football federation), nor from FIBA (International basketball federation), nor from similar cultural events.
She added: "Genocide continues because it has become normalized, and then, as is the case now (with the decision of European countries to boycott the song contest due to Israel's participation), the accountability process begins with a European boycott."
On Thursday, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Belgium officially announced their withdrawal from the "Eurovision 2026" song contest in protest against Israel's participation.
Albañez criticized the Eurovision song contest in her post, using an image with the label "Genovision," which recalls the concept of genocide.
