The Supreme Judiciary and Public Prosecution Launch Guidelines and Code of Conduct for Juvenile Justice

SadaNews - Today, Monday, the Supreme Judiciary Council and the Public Prosecution launched the guidelines and code of conduct for judges and public prosecutors specializing in juvenile cases, as a practical step towards establishing a more compassionate and equitable justice system for children in all their circumstances and locations.

This launch comes as a culmination of joint work between the Supreme Judiciary Council and the Public Prosecution, in partnership with the Global Movement for the Defense of Children, and supported by UNICEF and the Swasia Program, which aims to facilitate children's access to justice through numerous joint programs with the pillars of the justice sector in Palestine.

In his speech, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court/Court of Cassation/President of the Supreme Judiciary Council, Judge Muhammad Abdul Ghani Al-Auyawi, stated that the launch of this code and the guidelines is a strategic step that translates the deep commitment of the Judiciary Council to protect children's rights and provide a just judicial environment that respects their dignity and ensures their best interests.

Al-Auyawi also confirmed that the launch of this guide is the result of institutional cooperation and integration between national authorities and supporting partners, reflecting the joint efforts made to ensure the protection of children's rights and strengthen child-friendly justice.

For his part, Attorney General Akram Al-Khatib pointed out during his speech that the best interests of the child are a priority in implementation, and that juvenile protection prosecutors work according to national legislation and international standards.

He noted that the Public Prosecution has accomplished many friendly developments and guides that have become established in its work, aligning with the nature of children's and juvenile cases and responding to their needs, in accordance with the approach of reform and rehabilitation.

He added that these new standards represent an important addition to the existing practices within the Public Prosecution and are part of the expected commitments to enhance juvenile justice and contribute to the unification of procedures within the work of the prosecution.

The event included a presentation by Judge Hala Mansour on the draft code of procedures directed at juvenile justice, within the framework of ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, accountability, and integrity in the justice sector.

A group of judges, public prosecution members, representatives of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Social Development, and several partners and supporters in the Global Movement for the Defense of Children, represented by Mr. Khaled Qazmar, and the Swasia Program and UNICEF, represented by Mikaela Bassini, shared in the launch of the code, all of whom are making joint efforts "to develop the justice sector in Palestine".
