
Um al-Fahm: Closure of School Due to Pollution Caused by Fire
SadaNews - The municipality of Um al-Fahm announced today, Tuesday, the closure of Al-Majd School for Special Education, following a large fire that broke out last night in the area of Al-Aqwas, leading to an increase in pollution levels in the air. The decision was made to protect the health of the students.
Firefighting teams continue to work on extinguishing the fire, while the Ministry of Environmental Protection has urged residents to stay indoors and close their windows, particularly the elderly, children, and those with health issues.
In detail, the spokesperson for the Um al-Fahm municipality, Abdul-Munim Fawad, stated that "the Um al-Fahm municipality decided to close Al-Majd School for Special Education today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, due to a large fire that broke out last night in the Al-Aqwas area, causing a high level of pollution in the area, prompting officials to take action to ensure the health of the students in this school by closing it today to students."
He confirmed that "municipal firefighting teams have been working since late last night until this morning to extinguish the fire."
The spokesperson for the Um al-Fahm municipality explained that "according to the instructions of the Ministry of Environmental Protection in cases of high pollution levels and air saturated with hazardous particles, residents of the area should remain indoors and securely close their windows in the upcoming hours until the fire is extinguished and pollution levels decrease. Special attention should be given to the elderly, children, and patients suffering from respiratory or cardiac diseases. The environmental unit is continuously monitoring air quality in coordination with the relevant authorities, and updates will be issued according to developments in the situation."
