Hanan Abu Nda... Between the Journey of Displacement and Pregnancy, a Renewed Tragedy at Every Station
SadaNews - Amid the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip, painful human stories reflect the scale of suffering endured by civilians. Among these stories is that of Mrs. Hanan Abu Nda from northern Gaza City, whose life has turned into hell—a recurring cycle of displacement and suffering amid harsh humanitarian and health conditions.
To view the report:
Hanan, a woman suffering from polio and a hip dislocation since birth, said in her conversation with SadaNews that she "had to flee from her home in northern Gaza to the south after the intensification of bombardment and destruction that affected her neighborhood".
Repeated Displacement: Trying to Find a Lifeline
Displacement was not an easy choice, but a necessity for survival, as she found herself in Rafah city amid extremely difficult living conditions, without a safe shelter or medical care for her health condition and pregnancy.
After a temporary ceasefire came into effect, Hanan decided to return to northern Gaza in search of the lost stability. There, she was finally able to meet her husband, whom she had lost contact with since the beginning of the war. However, her joy did not last long, as the bombardments resumed and targeting intensified, leading to a new, harsher journey of displacement.
Hanan added, "We returned to Gaza under very difficult circumstances; our homes were destroyed, and several family members were martyred. Nevertheless, we tried to stay, but when the war resumed, we had to flee again."
Maghazi Camp.. A Refuge for a Pregnant Woman Without Privacy
In her latest displacement, she headed to the Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip, after walking most of the way on foot despite being pregnant and suffering from chronic health issues, only to be faced with an even harsher reality.
Today, Hanan lives in a crowded shelter filled with displaced persons, lacking privacy or a designated sleeping area, and in the absence of the most basic necessities of life such as food, water, and medical treatment. She lamented, "I urgently need healthcare and medical supplies because I will give birth via a cesarean section, but no one can help me, and my husband is unemployed, and we have nothing to sustain ourselves."
Hanan concludes her remarks with an urgent appeal to humanitarian and international organizations to intervene to secure treatment and suitable shelter for her and other pregnant women and patients who find themselves trapped between the fire of war and the bitterness of human inadequacy.
Her story is not an exception but a reflection of the suffering of thousands of women in Gaza who face the unknown every day amid a merciless war and a weak humanitarian response.
