Summit Meeting Between President Abbas and His Turkish Counterpart to Discuss Latest Developments and Efforts to Stop the War on Gaza

SadaNews - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a summit meeting held at the presidential palace in Ankara, the latest developments and the Palestinian movement on the international stage, as well as efforts to end the war on the Gaza Strip.

Before the meeting of the two presidents, an official reception ceremony was held for President Abbas in the courtyard of the complex.

The President thanked his Turkish counterpart for his country's supportive positions towards our Palestinian people and their just cause in all international forums, in addition to the humanitarian aid provided by Turkey to our people in the Gaza Strip.

President Abbas discussed with the Turkish President the historical bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and ways to enhance and develop these relations in all fields. They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Abbas briefed President Erdoğan on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the escalation of settlement activities, and the assaults by occupation forces and settlers against our people in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. He addressed the efforts being made to reach a permanent ceasefire, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and work diligently to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The President stated that the current Palestinian priorities include an immediate and permanent ceasefire, ensuring unconditional humanitarian aid to stop the genocide, famine, destruction, and displacement, the complete withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, and the assumption of full governmental and security responsibilities by the State of Palestine with Arab and international support, as well as starting the implementation of the early recovery and reconstruction plan.

The President emphasized the necessity for the international community to take practical and serious steps to prevent Israel from carrying out its plans to annex the West Bank and impose sovereignty over it, expedite the cessation of colonization and settler terrorism, and release the withheld Palestinian funds.

The President affirmed that the key to security and stability in the region lies in stopping the genocide, displacement, and land theft, and ending the occupation of the State of Palestine's land along the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

The President discussed with his Turkish counterpart the ongoing developments regarding holding a high-level international conference on the Palestinian cause and implementing the two-state solution, scheduled for September 22 in New York, under the joint auspices of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France.

The two presidents affirmed the continuation of joint coordination between the two countries to support the Palestinian position striving to end the occupation in accordance with international legitimacy and international law, and to gain further recognition for the State of Palestine, and to have it receive full membership in the United Nations.

Following the summit meeting between the President and his Turkish counterpart, an extended meeting was held with the presence of the Palestinian and Turkish delegations.

The Turkish President held a dinner banquet in honor of President Abbas and his accompanying delegation.

President Abbas arrived in Turkey yesterday, Wednesday, for a three-day official visit, as part of the regular political consultations taking place between the two presidents and the two friendly countries, given the historical ties and relationships that bind them.
