Gaza Municipality: Continuation of the 'Mikrot' Water Line Disruption and Escalating Water Crisis in the City

SadaNews - The Gaza Municipality reported that the flow of water through the "Mikrot" line has been halted for the eighth consecutive day due to severe damages from Israeli bombardment in the Shujaiya neighborhood east of the city.

The municipality indicated in a statement that urgent intervention is required to repair it, while a request for coordination to carry out the necessary maintenance work was denied once again today.

It noted that the "Mikrot" line represents the main water artery for Gaza City, covering 70% of the city's daily water needs for residents and displaced persons, and is the primary source of drinking water for more than 1.2 million people.

It stated that in light of the continuing disruption, there are no alternative sources to compensate for the existing shortfall, emphasizing that high temperatures exacerbate the daily suffering of citizens and the displaced.

It added: The entire city is facing the threat of thirst in the absence of any immediate solutions.

The municipality again called on the Palestinian Water Authority to ensure the necessary immediate coordination for maintenance work, urging international organizations and humanitarian institutions to act swiftly to save the city from a looming humanitarian disaster.

The municipality stated that it continues to operate at full capacity within its limited resources and appreciates the patience and cooperation of citizens during these harsh circumstances.
