"Children's Justice" Hosted by the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Education Towards Strengthening Access to Justice
SadaNews - A joint awareness meeting was held today in Ramallah, bringing together Attorney General Akram Al-Khateeb and Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Majd Barham, along with members of the Children's Justice Club. This meeting is part of efforts aimed at promoting legal culture among children, enabling them to understand their rights, and establishing principles of justice and child protection within the educational and community environments.
This meeting is part of the "Hope" project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, which seeks to enhance access to justice for marginalized groups, especially children, by empowering them, developing their legal capacities, and enhancing their effective participation in rights-related issues that affect their reality.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Attorney General honored the spirits of Palestine's martyrs, especially the children who perished due to the Israeli oppression, emphasizing that: "Our children are not just numbers in statistics, but faces that carry the features of the homeland, and dreams that deserved to flourish in the embrace of safety and dignity."
He added that the establishment of the Children's Justice Club represents a qualitative leap that elevates the idea of justice from being rigid legal procedures to a vibrant daily culture experienced by the child within the school and their social environment. This is a true expression of the concept of comprehensive justice, which can only be complete if it begins in childhood, by empowering the child to understand their rights and giving them the opportunity to express their opinions within a legal environment that respects their dignity.
For his part, the Minister of Education affirmed that the "Hope" project embodies the ministry's vision to build a conscious and active generation, capable of distinguishing between rights and duties, and facing societal challenges with values and knowledge. He explained that this partnership with the Public Prosecution represents a model to be followed in the collaboration of national efforts to protect our students and empower them in light of the exceptional circumstances we live in. He praised the efforts of the students and their teachers in engaging with this vital project, which contributes to instilling a culture of hope, legal awareness, and national belonging, amidst the challenges faced by our people, pointing out that these initiatives send a clear message that education remains the cornerstone in building a better future.
The members of the "Children's Justice Club" visited the Attorney General's office, where they met with several heads of specialized prosecution departments, including the head of the technical office Mr. Alaa Awad, the head of the cyber crimes prosecution Mr. Sofyan Abu Zuhairah, the head of the juvenile protection prosecution Mr. Thaer Khalil, and the head of the economic and environmental crimes prosecution Mr. Ashraf Mashal. The students were informed about the nature of the work of the Public Prosecution, its various roles in protecting public and private rights, following up on emerging crimes, and taking care of juvenile cases, as well as ensuring environmental and digital justice.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the members of the "Children's Justice Club" were honored in recognition of their distinguished role in promoting the culture of justice and children's rights in their schools, and their active contribution to enhancing legal awareness among their peers, reflecting advanced awareness and a genuine commitment to the values of participation and national responsibility.
