The Attorney General Participates in the Sixth Forum for Public Prosecutors and Affirms: Justice and Dignity Must Be Applied Without Exception
SadaNews - The Attorney General, Counselor Akram Al-Khateeb, participated in the works of the sixth forum for public prosecutors, organized by the European Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation "Eurojust" and held in The Hague, Netherlands, with the presence of several public prosecutors from Southern Mediterranean countries and their counterparts from European Union countries. This is within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Justice project aimed at enhancing judicial cooperation in transnational criminal matters. The Palestinian public prosecution delegation included the Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Nashat Ayoush, and the head of the Media and Public Relations Unit, Ms. Rasha Nabhan.
The Attorney General emphasized in his speech that justice and dignity must be applied without exception and that public prosecutors bear a collective responsibility in upholding human rights and achieving transnational criminal justice. He stressed, in this context, that the State of Palestine continues to build a comprehensive legal system that meets international standards and aligns with the latest legislative and institutional developments in the field of combating crime, despite the increasing challenges.
During the forum, the public prosecutors adopted the executive strategic plan for the Euro-Mediterranean Justice project for the period 2025-2027, which serves as a practical roadmap to enhance judicial cooperation between Southern Mediterranean countries and European Union countries. The plan focuses on two main areas: the first is combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling, and the second is asset recovery and criminal proceeds, by enhancing the work of the network of contact points in the public prosecutions EMJNet, and establishing joint investigations between countries. The strategy also includes supporting parallel financial investigations, developing methods for analyzing digital evidence and proving it, and organizing many specialized training programs according to the needs of participating countries.
In this context, the Attorney General emphasized the importance of empowering national contact points and enhancing the EMJNet network, which contributes to the development of practical cooperation mechanisms and the exchange of experiences among public prosecutions. Counselor Al-Khateeb held a meeting with Eurojust President, Mr. Michael Schmitt, where both sides discussed ways to enhance technical and professional cooperation between the two institutions, especially in the areas of training, experience exchange, and developing the institutional structure of public prosecutions. He also met with the Attorney General of the Republic of Malta, Dr. Victoria Buttigieg, where they agreed to activate the bilateral memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides in 2018 and to expand cooperation in the areas of judicial capacity building and exchanging experiences in managing cross-border cases. The forum also included a series of meetings with several public prosecutors from Arab and European countries, during which they discussed mechanisms for joint judicial action, enhancing partnerships, and facilitating technical cooperation in combating crime.
As part of his official visit, the Attorney General visited the Embassy of the State of Palestine in The Hague, where he met with His Excellency Ambassador Ammar Hijazi and the embassy staff. The Attorney General appreciated the efforts of the embassy in defending the legal and diplomatic rights of the State of Palestine and in supporting national work at various levels.
This high-level participation reflects the commitment of the Palestinian public prosecution to engage actively in international judicial systems and to affirm its presence in multilateral legal forums, enhancing cross-border justice and reinforcing the principles of dignity, fairness, and the rule of law at both regional and international levels.
