"Education": Palestine Achieves a Prominent Position in the Final Stage of the "Technovation" Competition
SadaNews - The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced today, Thursday, that a Palestinian team won in the final stage of the global Technovation competition for girls – the senior category.
The team that achieved this accomplishment is Robotex Pal from the Tulkarem Education Directorate, consisting of the students: Khadija Muhammad Shahab, Rama Fadi Abu Al-Awn, Layan Jamal Jadallah (Anabta Secondary Girls’ School), Lana Fadi Abu Al-Awn (Anabta Basic Girls’ School), and Baysan Riad Barabra (Bala’a Secondary Girls’ School), under the supervision of teachers Tahani Abu Riya, Amani Jadallah, and Saba Abu Al-Awn, with follow-up from the competition coordinator Hanaa Imran from the ministry.
The team presented an innovative project titled Azolla Care, aiming to design a smart farm for the care of Azolla plants using artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, as a sustainable alternative to industrial feed.
The project relies on a Raspberry Pi board, cameras, and sensors to monitor growth, along with a robotic arm for harvesting, and a smart application to manage the farm remotely.
It is worth noting that the competition saw participation from over 3,300 projects from 117 countries worldwide, while Palestine participated with more than 75 projects, two of which qualified for the semi-final stage: the winning Azolla Care team and the Al-Awda School team from Bethlehem.
This achievement comes as a result of the efforts of programming, artificial intelligence, and robotics clubs implemented by the ministry through the General Directorate of Educational Resources and Technologies, which provided the female students with quality training in programming, artificial intelligence, and engineering design, supporting their creativity in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship.
