Doctor Recommends Drinking Chamomile Tea Before Sleep.. For These Reasons
SadaNews - Insomnia is considered one of the most common sleep disorders, affecting many individuals.
In this context, doctors encourage people suffering from insomnia to consume one drink half an hour before sleep.
"Science Supports It"
William Arias, a doctor specialized in obesity and diabetes, stated that chamomile tea "has been known to our ancestors and can increase the sleep hormone, melatonin, while reducing the stress hormone, cortisol," according to the website "Get Sari".
Arias also revealed that there is compelling evidence for these claims, stating that "science supports it".
He clarified that "this medicinal drink is neither a myth nor a placebo" and emphasized that "there is scientific evidence supporting chamomile tea".
He assured that there is no need to search much for it, as chamomile tea is readily available in many supermarkets.
A recent study confirmed that it reduces sleep time and improves its quality, even in cases of chronic insomnia.
Its Benefits
The key component is apigenin, a compound that binds to GABA receptors in the brain, which are the same receptors targeted by sleeping pills but in a natural way, without dependency and without side effects.
Additionally, the doctor noted that chamomile tea "has proven effective for the elderly, postpartum women, and individuals suffering from stress or anxiety".
He described it as a drink that is "safe, economical, and effective", urging people to drink the "ideal dose" before sleep, which is "two grams of dried flowers taken half an hour before bedtime".
He concluded by stating that one should not expect results on the first night, but should try it over two weeks.
