An-Najah National University Advances Globally in CWUR 2026 Ranking, Continuing to Be the First Palestinian University and the Only One Listed in the Ranking
SadaNews - An-Najah National University has achieved a new milestone in the global university ranking by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) for the year 2026, advancing to 1719th place globally out of 21,291 higher education institutions evaluated worldwide. The university maintains its position as the first in Palestine, confirming its status as the only Palestinian university listed among the top 2000 universities globally in this ranking.
This advancement places An-Najah National University among the top 8.1% of universities in the world, compared to being in the top 8.6% in the 2025 ranking, reflecting the university's continued efforts to enhance its academic and research profile both regionally and internationally.
In terms of detailed indicators, the university improved by 126 positions globally, moving from 1845 in the 2025 ranking to 1719 in the 2026 ranking. It also advanced regionally in Asia from 726 to 685, a gain of 41 positions, and made a notable improvement in the research performance indicator from 1776 to 1649 globally, achieving an advancement of 127 positions. The university's overall score increased from 66.8 to 67.2.
This achievement is an extension of An-Najah National University's journey in enhancing the quality of education and research, establishing its presence in prestigious global rankings, especially given the extensive competition among higher education institutions worldwide. The CWUR 2026 ranking included over 21,000 institutions from various countries around the globe.
The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) is a leading international consultancy that began its rankings in 2012 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It issues an independent global academic ranking that measures the quality of education, employability, the quality of faculty members, and research performance without relying on surveys or data provided by universities.
The CWUR ranking is based on seven objective indicators distributed across four main areas: quality of education at 25%, measuring the academic success of university graduates; employability at 25%, measuring the professional success of graduates; quality of faculty members at 10%, based on prestigious international awards and achievements; and research performance at 40%, which includes the volume of research output, publication in prestigious journals, research impact, and the number of highly cited papers.
An-Najah National University affirmed that this advancement reflects its ongoing commitment to developing the higher education and research system, enhancing the quality of academic outputs, and supporting impactful research production, aligning with its vision towards leadership and excellence, and strengthening Palestine's presence on the global university map.
